In the highly customisable Bachelor of Business, you’ll have a range of study options available. A major is a primary focus for your study, while a minor allows you to study a few subjects rather than commit to a full major, so you will get a good grounding in a subject area and variety in your degree.
Whether you choose a single major, a double major, or no major at all, your degree will consist of 24 subjects in total. In the first year of your degree you’ll study 4 foundation subjects and will then have the flexibility in your program to choose from our suite of majors and minors to specialise in your chosen field or to create your own truly unique degree.
Our business foundation subjects will give you a thorough understanding of the business landscape, and the underpinning knowledge you need to succeed in your business career.Â
These foundation subjects are:
The no-major option gives you the ultimate flexibility to tailor your studies to your interests, strengths, and career goals.
By choosing this option, you’ll have the freedom to create a personalised degree that follows and builds on your interests and aspirations by combining a diverse range of business disciplines, allowing you to stand out in today’s competitive and evolving job market.
Studying a major enables you to focus on your passion and explore other areas of business.
Undertaking a single major means your study usually consists of 8 subjects focused on your chosen major. For some majors all subjects will be set, while in other majors you’ll have some required subjects and others you can choose from a major elective list.Â
When you graduate, your major will be listed on your testamur (your official graduation certificate).
*The Business Information System major involves 12 subjects.
A minor allows you to add variety to your degree and allow you to explore a discipline without committing to a full major, providing you with a solid foundation of knowledge and intermediate skills in a specific subject.
When you complete a single major, you can decide to complete one or two minors, or you may not decide to do a minor at all.
If you decide to do a double major, you will focus on your studies equally on 2 areas of specialisation.
The double major option typically consists of 8 subjects in each chosen major. When you graduate, both majors will be listed on your testamur (your official graduation certificate).
A double major is not possible if you decide to study the Business Information Systems major.
When you complete a double major in the Bachelor of Business, there is no opportunity to undertake a minor.
Minors allow you to study a few subjects in a specific area without committing to a full major, giving you a solid foundation while adding variety to your degree.
Minors may include subjects within individual majors or other minors, but each subject can only be credited to one major or minor.
If you choose not to undertake any majors, then in addition to your 4 foundation subjects and capstone subject, you can choose to undertake one or two Business Minors with a combination of business option subjects and university electives to make up your degree.Â
For certain subjects, you may need to complete introductory subjects before moving on to more advanced topics in that field.
The slimmed down, fully online Bachelor of Business gives you the opportunity to choose from three (3) majors and five (5) minors which can be completed 100% online.
At RMIT we know that you don't want to be limited by a rigid Business degree or locked in to a path before you really know who you want to be. You want to be able to explore your options and set your own future.Â

This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.
